Let's start off with the official version - the following is taken from Merrill Lynch New Retirement Study - 2006, and covers the Top 10 jobs that people gravitate towards after they "retire".

  • Tour Guide
  • Retail Sales Clerk
  • Bookkeeper
  • Home Handyman
  • Bed and Breakfast Owner/Manager
  • Security Screener
  • Real Estate Agent




Now, onto the fun part. The followin are my own Top 10 Dream Retirement Jobs:


My Dream Jobs:
  • Professional Speaker- using my Toastmasters skills.
  • Corporate Historian - my MBA thesis was a company case study
  • Life Coaching on a cruise ship
  • Work in Africa-I have the contacts and I lived there in the seventies
  • Tour Guide-using my extensive travel and hill walking experience
  • Scuba Diving - assist my friend in his Scuba school in the Canary Islands
  • Learn Keyboard and join a band, I sang at the Village Inn CA and the China club Hong Kong!
  • Local Radio presenter/DJ, I have some radio experience.
  • Take an acting course and become an extra - I shouted the lines Fire! Fire, from the wings, in a Shakespearian play.
  • Teach Neuro Linguistic Programming and Hypnosis, which I am qualified to do


“My Dream Jobs” is a list of fun/cool ideas. I won’t do most of them ... but I could! They are offered here as thought starters, for your retirement jobs options.



Wouldn’t it be nice to find a job that feeds your self-esteem by the very doing of it, because you get to use the skills you most love to use, in the field you most love to work in, moving towards those goals you would most love to accomplish. That’s possible in retirement jobs!
